Most veterinary practices are focused on the medical aspect of business and supporting their current clients, patients, and staff. Marketing is often an afterthought and something most practice owners and managers struggle to do well. Rumpus Writing and Editing exists to help veterinary practices and industry professionals create quality written content for websites, blogs, marketing materials, and beyond, but sometimes words simply aren’t enough.
Video can profoundly impact your marketing efforts. I sat down with Craig Spinks, CEO of Veteos, a veterinary-specific video production company, to learn more about the company and the positive impact video can have on your veterinary business.
The Veteos story
Spinks got his start in general video production and worked in non-profit businesses for many years. Eventually, he wanted to find a niche where he could truly make a difference while also building a thriving business. When he produced a video for a veterinary practice in Colorado, word quickly spread about his services. He was soon traveling across the country, producing videos for other practices and getting to know the industry, and Spinks knew he’d found the niche he was looking for. Committing to the veterinary industry, Veteos was officially born in 2017.
Today, Veteos offers video production services for veterinary practices and other veterinary businesses across the country. The team tailors their efforts to each practice, creating customized introduction videos for homepages, educational content for clients and exam rooms, videos designed to help attract new talent, and any other videos the practice might need. The company also has a library of client education videos that hospitals can customize and brand without having to film themselves, creating a quick and effective way to increase client compliance and staff efficiency. How video affects marketing efforts
Why should you add videos to your marketing plan? According to Spinks, most people prefer learning about a product or service via video, and the short format appeals to peoples’ notoriously short attention spans, which can keep them engaged and on your website longer. More importantly, a well-done video taps into the viewer’s emotions. After all, most buying decisions are made based on a person’s initial emotional response.
“We’re aiming to connect with the person on the other end of that computer screen and to have them experience a tangible emotional connection,” said Spinks. “Sometimes when we think of that, especially in the veterinary space, it feels cheesy or sappy. But, there are also other emotions—like humor—that you can tap into from a marketing perspective. The goal is to frame yourself in a different light and use emotions to drive decision-making,”
When I asked him about data, Spinks pointed out that my brain works much like the rest of the industry, which is often focused on facts and figures and that emotional response if difficult to capture through analytics. Still, he provided the information below to help win over the non-believers.
- 83% of people prefer watching videos to access instructional or informational content.
- Job postings with video have a 34% greater application rate than postings without.
- 95% of purchasing decisions are subconscious.
Rumpus and Veteos collaboration
An otherwise good video might not have the intended effect if the content doesn’t hit home. To help him tackle large or unusual projects, the Veteos team sometimes collaborates with Rumpus to write engaging scripts with accurate and relevant information.
